ALDER CREEK - Jeanette "Jan" G. Siegel, 83, of Route 12, Boonville, died peacefully at home on April 20, 2012. Jan was born May 9, 1928 in Middleport NY, the youngest daughter of the late Marion and Andrew Sifkovitz. She graduated from Moorestown High School, NJ in 1944. On August, 16, 1947 she married the late Hugh N. Siegel at St Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Camden NJ. Jan and Hugh moved to her current home in Alder Creek in 1955. While Jan's most important role was as wife and mother, she always found time to be an active member of the community. She was a Brownie/Girl Scout Leader, a 4-H Leader, and past president of the Remsen Central School PTA. At various time she was a cantor, choir member, Eucharistic Minister, and Trustee of St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Forestport, and President, Secretary and finally Treasurer of St Patrick's/St Mary's Catholic Women's Club, a post she held until her death. In the early 1980's, Jan began a Food Pantry and Thrift Shop at St Patrick's which has been a blessing for many in the community. Jan also was a life member of the Remsen VFW, Post # 982. During WWII, Jan worked as a clerk/typist at Ft Dix, NJ. She also worked as a secretary in Philadelphia PA. After Hugh retired, Jan worked at Freeman's Jewelry in Boonville. Jan is survived by her daughters Karen (Douglas) Batt, Wilmington, DE, Paula (James) Logan, Henderson, NV and Andrea Siegel Radesi, Lee Center, NY; and her son, Frederick (Patricia) Siegel, Waterloo NY. Also surviving are her grandchildren Jeffrey and Jonathan Batt, Emory and Mirel Oese-Siegel, and Christine Logan and her stepgrandchildren Jaimie (Eric) Galayda and baby Milo, James Radesi and fiance Kim Burth, and Bridget and Rannon Healey. Jan leaves a brother-in-law, Samuel Mercer, and dear friends Betty James, Frances Lenart and Ann Borwick and the other women of the CWC. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Jan was predeceased by her husband (1995) and parents, her daughter, Jana Strapec (2007), her grandson, Hans Strapec (1999), her son-in-law, Peter Radesi (2007), her sisters, Deborrah Mercer, Dolores Russell, and Eleanor Snyder, and her brother, John Sifkovitz. The family wishes to thank Dr Adam Seigers for his kind and compassionate care during her illness. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by Rev. Sean Patrick Obrien, on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport NY., with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville.
