Jean Wandover Moon

Forestport- Jean Wandover Moon, 93, formerly of North Lake Road, and more recently a resident of Titusville, FL, passed away on January 18, 2023, at Beachside Center, Assisted Living Facility, New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Jean was born in Cooperstown, NY, on March 4, 1929, a daughter of Walter S. and Etelka C. Andrews Eaton. She grew up in Richfield Springs, where she graduated from high school, with the Class of 1947. Thereafter Jean attended and graduated from Plattsburg State Teachers College, where she earned her Bachelor degree in education and Home Economics. For many years she was employed as a high school home economics teacher at Forestport High School, retiring in the mid 1970’s from Adirondack Central School, Boonville.

On October 8, 1955, Jean married Alonzo Wandover at Forestport Presbyterian Church. Afterwards the couple lived in Forestport and later the couple was divorced. On September 17, 1990, Jean married Vernon E. Moon, at Forestport Presbyterian Church. Thereafter the couple lived in Forestport during the summers and in Florida in the winter. Mr. Moon passed away on January 21, 2008.

Jean was a member of Forestport Presbyterian Church, where she served as a member of the church session. After retiring, Jean became an avid oil painter of landscape scenes.

She is survived by one son and daughter in law, George (Patricia) Wandover, Port Clinton, OH. She was predeceased by a son, James A. Wandover, who died in an army training accident, in 1983, while serving in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army, at Fort Bragg, NC. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Kimberleigh Shifler, of Maryland and a sister, Mary Thoburn, Raleigh, NC.

Her funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Forestport Presbyterian Church, where a calling hour will be from 12 Noon until the service. Interment will follow in Woodgate Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tunnel to Towers 2361 Hylan Blvd. Staten Island, NY 10306.
