Rome- Jayna M. Kent, 48, wife of John G. passed away on October 24, 2015 at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, after a courageous and lifelong battle with lupus. Jayna was born on June 4, 1967. Shortly thereafter she was adopted by her parents Charles F. and Shirley A. Kellogg Joslin. She was raised in Turin where she received her education, graduating with the Class of 1986 from South Lewis Central School. Following high school she attended Alfred University. Jayna lived in the Rochester area for a time, before moving back to the Turin area in 1994. She was then employed and was co-owner, along with Raymond Goethals, of the Turin Inn, until 2009 when she retired due to her illness. A proud accomplishment of Jayna's was obtaining her certification as a New York State Licensed Optician. After receiving her licensure she was employed at Walmart, Rome, and at Pearle Vision, Utica. On November 6, 2005, she was united in marriage with John G. Kent by a justice of the peace in her parent's living room. On her birthday, June 4, 2006, the couple renewed their vows with a wedding ceremony for family and friends at her parents' home in Turin. Following their marriage the couple settled in Rome. Mrs. Kent greatly enjoyed trips to Old Forge to visit the shops and enjoy a boat tour. Besides her husband John, Jayna is survived by her parents, Charles and Shirley Joslin, Lowville, her brother, Samuel (Wanda) Joslin, Croghan, her father and mother-in-law, Donald B. Kent, Jr. (Maryann), Rome, her brothers and sisters in law: Donald B. Kent, III (Holly), Scott G. (Cindy) Kent, and Stacy Kent, all of Rome; a special aunt Carol Casey, Florida, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her canine companion Mia. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 28, at 12:00 Noon at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will follow in Turin Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 pm, and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral.
