Town of Western- Janice E. VanNamee, 68, of River Road, a life resident of the Boonville area and widow of Gary, passed away at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Janice was born in Utica, on May 28, 1949, a daughter of Everett and Lydia May Johnson Lockwood. She grew up in Remsen, and in Unadilla Forks, graduating from Leonardsville High School, with the Class of 1967. Thereafter for many years Janice was employed as the toy and sporting goods department manager at Nichols Department Store, New Hartford. Later for many years she was employed as a pre-school teacher for Boonville Head Start; her last employment was in the accounting department at Rome Walmart. On June 10, 1989, Janice was united in marriage with Gary R. VanNamee, at the North Western United Methodist Church. Mr. Van Namee passed away on May 28, 1999. Janice will be fondly remembered for her excellent down home style of cooking. For many years she and Gary operated the popular Pan Cake House at the Boonville Oneida County Fair, and at the NYS Woodsmens Field Days. She was a member of the North Western United Methodist Church. Janice enjoyed keeping up with life events and her many friends on Face-book, learning on the computer, camping and crocheting. Janice is survived by one daughter, Joanne Higby, two grandchildren, Kerry Murphy and Aubrey Murphy, all of Amsterdam, NY, her fiance James P. Walker, Westernville; one sister, Mary (Robert) Otter, Oriskany; two brothers, Dennis (Sally) Lockwood, Donald (Deborah) Lockwood, all of West Winfield and by a brother in law, Marshal Vaughn, Boonville. She was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Vaughn, in 2017 and Nancy M. Jones, in 2000. Her Funeral Service will be Saturday at 2:30 P.M. at North Western United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in Steuben Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday (TODAY) 2-5 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
