Jane M. Axtell

Port Leyden- Jane M. (Croneiser) Axtell, 91, a former longtime resident of East Main St. Port Leyden widow of Earl, passed away peacefully, on Friday, November 13, 2020, while under the loving care of her family and hospice, at the home of her daughter and son in law, Janette and John Carpenter. Jane was born in Constableville, on April 11, 1929, a daughter of William Joseph and Elizabeth Agnes (Cavanaugh) Croneiser. She was a graduate of Port Leyden High School, of the Class of 1946, where she enjoyed playing basketball and cheerleading, before continuing her education at the Utica School of Commerce. She was employed as a secretary for the Gould Paper Mill in Lyons Falls. After raising her five daughters, Jane was employed as a secretary of the Lewis County Livestock Market in Lowville, for many years. On August 10, 1949, Jane was united in marriage with Earl Axtell at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. Following their marriage the couple purchased a farm on State Route 26, near Turin, later purchasing a farm on Route 12D, Boonville. Upon retirement they made their home in Port Leyden. After her husband's death, Jane was a resident at The Terrace at Woodland, Assisted Living Community, Rome, NY. Jane was of the Catholic faith, and was a member of St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. She enjoyed sitting on the Election Board and also spending time in her flower and vegetable gardens. Jane loved spending time with her family and enjoyed the many gatherings at their camp. She also loved music, dancing with Earl and was very proud of her Irish decent. Jane was predeceased by Earl, her loving husband of 68 years. Jane is survived by five daughters, Bonnie (Jim) Easton, Lyons Falls, Janette (John) Carpenter, Boonville, Beth Axtell, Ravena, Jean (Dean) Bissell, Voorheesville, Mary (Joe) Legnetto, Syracuse; many grandchildren, Scott Howanietz, Rebecca Howanietz, Stefan Howanietz, Catie Howanietz, Brad (Jennifer) Carpenter, Robert (Jessica) Carpenter, Chad Carpenter, Kristin (James) VanAlstine, Brittany Axtell, Brianna Bissell, Clarke Bissell, Bailee Legnetto, Kaylee Legnetto; sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one brother, Willis (Sharon Baker) Croneiser and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Earl, she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lindsey Legnetto, parents, William Joseph and Elizabeth Agnes (Cavanaugh) Croneiser; brothers, Earl, Bert, Alvin and Raymond Croneiser; sisters, Marion, Olive Rudd and Sister Agnes William, a.k.a. Rita. A Prayer Service will be Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Calling hours are Wednesday, 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Please wear a facial covering, social distancing and contact tracing will be observed at the funeral home and at St. Martin's church. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Cemetery P.O.
