West Leyden- Jane A. Ernst, a longtime resident of Osceola Road and widow of Lyndon H., passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since May, 2022.
Jane was born in Constable, NY (Franklin County), on January 23, 1932, a daughter of Floyd H. and Corolea Fountain Barton. She grew up in Constable, later moving to Rome, where she completed her education at St. Aloysius Academy, of Rome. In 1952, Jane married Charles E. Russell. Later the couple was divorced.
In 1962, Jane was married to Lyndon H. Ernst, making their home in West Leyden. Mr. Ernst, a heavy equipment mechanic and veteran of WWII, passed away on April 7, 1996.
Jane had attended St. Mary’s church, West Leyden and The Reformed Church, both of West Leyden. She was a member of Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Boonville and the West Leyden Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Jane enjoyed gardening, raising vegetables and flowers, cooking, canning as well as fishing and raising animals and going on long trips to visit family.
Jane was raised by her step father, Martin A. Brennan. She greatly loved her family; raising her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Surviving are her children; Charlene Russell, Long Lake, James (Colleen) Russell, Syracuse and Christian J. Ernst, West Leyden and a step son, Kenneth Ernst, Forestport; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Russell, and Michelle A. Ernst Heranney; by step children, David Ernst, Linda Coons, Kevin Ernst, Jeffrey Ernst and by her siblings, Floyd, Leo, Jack, Dorothy and Corolea. Also surviving are her special niece Shawnee Ross (Cliff) of Long Lake and great-niece, Becky Light of Boonville.
Jane loved her canine friends and animals of all kinds. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at 3:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours will be Sunday, from 1-3 P.M. Following her services, all are invited to attend a continued celebration of Jane’s life and sharing of memories at the Milk Plant Tavern, State Rt. 26, West Leyden, NY.
