Jana A. Siegel Strapec, 58, of Route 12, Boonville, died peacefully on September 13, 2007, in the arms of her loving mother. Jana was born on October 28, 1948, in Mt. Holly, NJ the eldest daughter of Jeanette Sifkovitz Siegel, and the late Hugh N. Siegel. She graduated from Remsen Central School in 1966 and the College of Saint Rose, Albany, NY, in 1970. Jana spent her entire life as an educator: first to her younger siblings and then professionally as an elementary school teacher for Adirondack Central School (West Leyden Elementary) for eight years and then fifteen years at Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School, Richmond, VA, as a teacher, director of religious education, and preschool director (Coal Pit Learning Center). She then left to become a home educator (nanny) for the McClain Family, Richmond, VA.; the Olczak Family, Scotia, NY; and the Murphy Family, Halfmoon, NY. Jana was an active member of any church parish the belonged to. As a child she was a choir member and substitute organist at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Church, Forestport, NY. She was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Cantor at Our Lady of Lourdes, Richmond, VA, and involved in the formation of St. Michaelï¿(TM)s Church, Glen Allen, VA. She had also Lectored at Holy Trinity Church, Cohoes, NY. Jana is survived by her mother and caregiver, Jeanette Siegel; her sisters, Karen (Douglas) Batt, Wilmington, DE, Paula (James) Logan, Henderson, NV, and Andrea Siegel Radesi, Lee Center, NY; and her brother, Frederick (Patricia) Siegel, Waterloo, NY. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews: Jaimie (Eric) Galayda, James Radesi, Jeffrey and Jonathan Batt, Emory and Mirel Oese-Siegel, Bridget and Rannon Healey, and Christine Logan. Jana leaves an aunt, Eleanor Snyder, and an uncle, Samuel Mercer, and close cousins, Patricia Miller, Mary Ditkof, and Mary Ann Jones. Also surviving are her mother-in- law, Ruth Strapec, and in-laws Stephen (Sandara) Strapec, and Stephanie (Jerry) Stephens, and their children. Jana leaves many dear friends including "Aunt" Betty James, Boonville, Joan Davis, Owego, NY, and the Lowenhagens, the Parsleys, the Sayers, the Floyds, all of Virginia. Jana was predeceased by her father, her son, Hans Strapec (1974-1999), Hansï¿(TM) father, Dennis Strapec (1948-2005), her brother-in-law, Peter Radesi, (2007), father-in-law, Stephen Strapec, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including Danny Jones, Chris Murphy, and Annette Sadowski. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, September 17, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Church, Forestport, where Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen, pastor will officiate. Calling hours are Sunday 2-5 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in St. Josephï¿(TM)s Cemetery, Boonville.
