Boonville - James W. Smith, 68, formerly of Route 12, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford, after a long illness. Jim was born at the former Grassy Brook Farm in Alder Creek on May 31, 1940, to W. John and Estella Stoklosa Smith. He graduated from Boonville Central School in the Class of 1958, and worked as a carpenter prior to serving in the U.S. Army in Germany and France. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Boonville and worked at Boonville Furniture and Rome Cable Company for many years. Jim was an avid bingo player and enjoyed traveling with his mother and special niece, Jessie. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed playing cards and listening to polka music. In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Priscilla and Gerald Boliver and Frances and Richard Boliver, all of Croghan, and Karen and John Tucker of Greig; and one brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Katie Smith of Utica. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, W. John Smith, and a sister, Marie Helen. In keeping with Jim's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Interment will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Arrangements are entrusted to Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Lomond Office Park, 110 Lomond Court. Utica, NY 13502. Jimmy will be greatly missed by his Mommy, Cheppo, Pudge, Butch and Dolly.
