James W. Roberts

Holland Patent: James W. Roberts, 80, passed away at his home on December 7, 2011. He was born in Holland Patent on June 23, 1931, the son of F. Stanley and Maude (Watkins) Roberts. He graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1950. During the Korean War, he served with the US Army artillery division and was stationed in Sculthorpe, England. On June 2, 1956, following graduation from Morrisville College, he was united in marriage to Caroline (Connie) Kessler in the First Presbyterian Church, Holland Patent. Jim was employed with the NYS Department of Transportation in an engineering position. Following his retirement in 1989, he volunteered as a docent at the Baron von Steuben Memorial Park, served on the Board of Trustees for the Holland Patent Free Library and pursued his ever-continuing interest in history. His membership in Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) afforded him many opportunities to visit areas of interest in a region he greatly enjoyed. Surviving him are his wife, Connie; daughter, Laurie Roberts, Vernon, N.Y.; and many dear relatives and cherished friends. Jim was predeceased by his brother, John S. Roberts, and sister, Phyllis R. Gates. At Jim's request, there are no calling hours. A buffet reception in his memory is planned for Wednesday December 14, from 1:00 ~ 3:00 PM at the American Legion Post, Holland Patent.
