Constableville - James S. Hoffman, 67, a resident of James Street since 1990, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 1, 2009 at his home. He was born in Lowville on January 23, 1942, to Kenneth and Pearl Kiser Hoffman. He grew up near Port Leyden on the Hoffman homestead farm on the East Road and graduated from Port Leyden High School with the Class of 1960. Mr. Hoffman entered the U.S. Army in 1962 and served in the occupation of South Korea until his honorable discharge. For many years he was employed as a machinist at Pettibone Co. in Rome. On November 4, 1972, he was united in marriage with Bonnie Come at the Boonville United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Boonville prior to moving to Rome. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sisters, Lorraine McCanney of Boonville, Dianna LaQuay and her husband, Tom, and Jane J. Manning, all of Lyons Falls; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Teresa Hoffman of Port Leyden, and Richard and Bridget Hoffman of Lowville; and a step-daughter, Jodie Ackerman and her husband, James, of North Bay. He was predeceased by two sisters, Linda Best in 1963, and Jean Hoffman in 1979. Services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, where the Reverend Donald H. Karlen, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, will officiate. Interment will be in Rathbunville Cemetery, Town of Verona. Flowers are gratefully declined, instead, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
