James R. Linck

Constableville- James R. Linck, 82, of James St. husband of the late Priscilla E., passed away at his residence, on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, while surrounded by the loving care of his family and Hospice. Jim was born in Boonville, on September 11, 1936, a son of Ronald W. and Florence Barrett Linck. He grew up on Domser Road in the hamlet of Talcottville, attending Talcottville Rural School, before continuing his education at Boonville Central School, graduating with the Class of 1954. From 1954 until 1956, Mr. Linck furthered his education attending Utica College where he studied business. From 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958, Jim served his country in the US Army, stationed stateside and in Germany. From 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1962, he served in the US Army Reserves. In late 1958, Mr. Linck began his employment with his father, in the operation of the Ronald W. Linck Insurance Agency, of Boonville, a well-known North Country area insurance agency established by his father in the early 1930s. Later James purchased the family insurance agency, operating the business until 1987, when he sold the agency. From 1987, until 1997, Mr. Linck was employed as a Rural Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring from the Constableville Post Office. On July 6, 1963, James was united in marriage with Priscilla E. Ossont, at St. Johns Church, Lyons Falls. Afterwards the couple lived in Boonville, before moving to Constableville and to their present home in 1976. Mrs. Linck, a well-known area nurse and EMT Volunteer for Constableville Fire Co., passed away on August 22, 2015. Mr. Linck was a member of St. Marys Church, Constableville and a 50 year member of Constableville Fire Company, where he had served as company President and Secretary, as well as Field Day Parade Chairman for many years and greatly enjoyed marching with the fire department color guard. For many years, Mr. Linck served as assessor for the Town of West Turin. During his high school years, Jim excelled at playing Basketball, Baseball and later on community softball teams. He will be fondly remembered for his bowling skills and for many years, Jim enjoyed bowling on the F.J. Smith Bowling Team, in Constableville and in Boonville. He also enjoyed playing Euchre and Jim was an avid Syracuse University Basketball Fan, a Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Fan, a NY Mets Baseball Fan and a loyal Buffalo Bills Football team fan. Jim is survived by one daughter and son in law, Beth Ann (William) McGovern, Constableville; three beloved grandchildren, Meghan (Robert Jr.) Cummings, Turin, Philip (Breanna) McGovern and Cory (Emily) McGovern, all of Constableville; one great granddaughter, Ella Cummings; one great grandson, Conner Cummings; three sisters and two brothers in law, Frances (Kenneth) Strife, Croghan, Phyllis Worden, Port Leyden and Mary (Kenneth)Rhone, Talcottville; one brother and sister in law, Dennis W. (Veronica) Linck, San Bernardino, CA. Jim was predeceased by a brother, Gerald E. Linck, in 2006. Also surviving is a sister in law, Joan Linck, Talcottville, nieces, nephews and cousins and three brothers in law and their spouses, William (Patricia) Ossont, Gasport, NY, Peter (Susan) Ossont, Lyons Falls, Jeffrey (Christine) Ossont, Ocoee, Fla; three sisters in law, Maxine LaQuay McConnell, Boonville, Denise (James) Reed, Canastota and Nonie Ossont, Lyons Falls. Jim was predeceased by five brothers in law, Kenneth Ossont, Duane Ossont and Reginald Ossont, Kenneth LaQuay and Charles McConnell. Jims family extends a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the B Wing Staff at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, for the excellent care afforded to Jim and a note of sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Lewis County Hospice Care, Inc. for the excellent and compassionate care rendered to Jim. A Prayer service will be Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Funeral Service to follow at St. Marys Church, Constableville, at 11:00 A.M. where Deacon James Chaufty, will officiate. Calling hours are Thursday 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment in the spring will be held in St. Patricks Cemetery, Constableville. Memorial contributions may be made to Constableville Fire Co.
