Forestport- James H. VerSchneider, 71, of Forestport, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018, at Utica Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Utica, NY. Jim was born in Boonville, on February 19, 1947, eldest son of Louis and Weltha (Marson) VerSchneider. He grew up in Alder Creek, attended Boonville Central School and graduated in 1965. He was a Viet Nam-era veteran of the US Air Force. He was an avid airplane pilot, flying mainly float planes, in the Western Adirondack region of NY. He was an experienced hunter and fisherman. He was a graduate of Riverside School of Aeronautics in Marcy, NY and was employed by several major air carriers. He was later employed as an aircraft maintenance Crew Chief for American Airlines in Chicago, IL. He was also a member of the American Airlines competitive ski team. He retired to Forestport, NY to enjoy his love of the outdoors. He was last employed by the Adirondack Railroad maintaining rail bed integrity. He was a life-time member of the Charles J. Love Post, American Legion Post 406 of Boonville and the Transport Workers Union of America. Jim is survived by two children: Steve of Florida and Rene of Colorado and one granddaughter, Hannah Parkins and his siblings: Nancy (Bob) Matt of Rome, Nick (Glenyce) of Foresport, Cathy of Florida and Mark (Joan) of Boonville, and niece, Maureen Matt. Jim was predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family and there will be no calling hours. Interment will be in the spring in St. Patricks Cemetery, Forestport. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
