Boonville - James C. Snyder, 77, of Walker Road, husband of Sue, passed away after a courageous battle with an illness on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, while surrounded by the loving care of his wife and family. Affectionately known as Jim, he was born in Boonville, on June 2, 1944, son of Anthony Willard and Frances Antoinette Szyikowski Snyder. Jim grew up at his family's homestead on Black River Lane in the vicinity of Boonville. He received his education at Boonville Central School, graduating with the Class of 1962. Thereafter, he furthered his education by attending Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY and was then employed by Ethan Allen Furniture Company, Boonville, and Local 35 Union of Utica, NY. While in high school, Jim excelled at playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. In 1960, he was selected to represent Boonville Central School in Section III of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association baseball games played on the historic Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY. Later, for many years, Jim greatly enjoyed participating in area basketball and baseball town teams as well as softball leagues. In 1965, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army, entering at Syracuse, NY, serving his country in Anchorage Alaska, during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with a rank of SP/4, on July 10, 1967. Afterwards, he continued to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on July 19,1971. Jim was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and received a citation for being an Army Expert Marksmanship Badge M-14. In June 1967, Jim returned to Boonville and resumed employment with Local 35 as a laborer in construction, eventually advancing to Grade Foreman on municipal water and sewer projects. Altogether, Jim's employment for Local 35 spanned a total of 35 years. After his retirement, he was employed for two additional years as Clerk of the Works for the water and sewer upgrade project in the Village of Boonville. Jim was united in marriage with Sue A. Murphy, on February 27, 1981, at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. This was a loving union lasting 41 years until his passing. Jim possessed a lifelong interest and talent in hunting; greatly enjoying the sport right through November 2021, when he shot a large buck. He was an avid fly fisherman, enjoying fishing in the Black River. He was a member of Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post # 5538, VFW, both of Boonville, Boonville Elks Lodge, # 2158 and the Boonville Protective Order of Elks. Jim was known for his honesty, humility, loyalty, and quick wit. In addition to his loving wife, Sue, Jim is survived by a daughter and son-in- law, Stacey (Adam) Swift and their daughter, Elin, of Evans, GA; one son, Joseph J. Snyder and his daughter, Arayna, both of Boonville; one brother and sister-in-law, Anthony (Gloria) Snyder, Boonville; and a sister, Jean Marie Beha, Rome; three sisters-in-law Anita (Frank) Karpinski, Boonville, Therese (Ken) Stabb, Boonville and Cathy (David) Ward, Constableville. He was predeceased by two brothers-in-law; Dennis Murphy, in 2008 and Timothy Murphy, in 2017; his parents; Anthony and Frances Snyder; his mother in law, Jean Murphy and a sister-in-law, Colleen Bedore, in 2020. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews and his beloved canine friend, "Clyde." Jim's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to I.C.U. nurses Vinessa, Darlene, Patty, and Kelly and to Intermediate I.C.U. nurses Susie and Alec. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jim's life on Sunday, March 6, 2022, from 2 - 6 P.M., at Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. on Park Avenue, in Boonville. Services with Military Honors from Charles J. Love Post American Legion 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post # 5538, VFW and The Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville, will take place in the spring in Boonville Cemetery.
