James C. LaPlante, age 62, a lifelong resident of Ammon Road, West Leyden, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2006, after a corageous battle with cancer, at the home of his sister, Bethany Schwertfeger, where he had resided since May, 2006. Jim was born in Rome on February 29, 1944, a son of Joseph and Marie Ammon LaPlante. For over forty years, Jim drove log trucks for Stillï¿(TM)s Saw Mill of Ava, retiring in 2003, due to illness. He is survived by five sisters and three brothers-in-law; Joanne Langley, Tavernier, FL., Carol and Lester Fallon, Sharon and Dale Grems, both of Holland Patent, Mary Zimmer, Parker, AZ., Bethany and Daniel Schwertfeger, Floyd, one brother and sister in law; Joseph and Glenda LaPlante, West Covina, CA., his uncle, Charles Ammon, West Leyden, with whom he had resided for many years, an aunt, Anita LaBelle, Florida, special cousins; Linda and Murray Lee, and their daughter, Emily, Boonville, Eugene Ammon and his sons, Tyler and Trevor, of Ammon road, many cousins, nieces nephews, great nieces great nephews, and countless friends, including Lori Burke of West Leyden. He was predeceased by his father Joseph LaPlante in 1947, his mother, Marie Zimmer, in 1992, a special aunt, Edna Ammon, 1978, and a brother in law, Gary Langley, in 2003. Always a quiet man with a remarkable sense of humor, Jim will be remembered for his quiet dignity. He was an uncomplicated many who believed in the honesty of a hard dayï¿(TM)s work, and in the importance of family. In his unassuming way, Jim was there for his loved ones, always giving of himself. He was the best son, brother, cousin, and uncle a family could hope to have. Jim was an avid racing fan, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, working on the racecar of his close friends, Fuzz and Jeff Kotary, and watching Jeff race at Utica-Rome Speedway. The family would like to thank Dr. Samir Desai and his staff , the staff at Hospice, especially Jimï¿(TM)s "girlfriends," nurses; Pat Cannon, and Penny Klosner. Words cannot convey our heartfelt gratitude for the joy and comfort they gave Jim in his last days. The funeral for Jim will be on Wednesday, October 25, at 11 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Laurie Percival Pauley will officiate. Interment will be in St, Maryï¿(TM)s Cemetery, West Leyden. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the funeral home.
