Boonville - Irene (Goodhines) DeVoe, 75, of Woodgate Drive and formerly of State Route 46 and the Old West Leyden Road, passed away at her home on Sunday, February 13, 2011, while surrounded by the loving care of her family and friends. A native of Constableville, she was born at the Goodhines family homestead farm on the Fish Creek Road on August 13, 1935, a daughter of Walter J. and Clara (Scheidleman) Goodhines. Irene attended the Byrons Corners Rural School before graduating from Constableville High School with the Class of 1951. After graduation she was employed in the operation of her family's dairy farm while her brother, Gordon, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. In the later 1950's she was employed as bookkeeper at Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin. During that period she began her career as a legal secretary, working for attorneys Lyman P. Williams of Boonville, then Todd McIntyre, and finally McLane, Smith and Lascuretts. She had been a legal secretary for over forty years when she retired on January 1, 2009. On September 10, 1955, Irene was united in marriage with Ralph DeVoe. For many years the couple operated a large dairy farm on the Old West Leyden Road near Boonville. Mr. DeVoe died on December 15, 1988, and following his death, Irene moved to her residence on State Route 46 in Boonville. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. Mrs. DeVoe served on the Board of Education of the Adirondack Central School system for fifteen years. She greatly enjoyed quilting, and loved making quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Irene is survived by her children, Michael of Boonville, Dawne Olbrych and her husband, David of Scotia, Peter and his companion, Merica Laveck, Patti DeVoe-Bellinger, and Sharon and her husband, William Cihocki, all of Boonville; grandchildren Jeremy DeVoe and companion Darcy Dutch, Joseph DeVoe and companion Tess Beadore, Corey DeVoe, Michael and Daniel Olbrych, Jacqueline DeVoe and companion, Ben Fox, Samantha DeVoe and companion Casey Hoffert, Sierra Laveck, Olivia and Ashlyn DeVoe, Mackenzie and Nathan Bellinger, and Collin, Gabe and Bryce Cihocki; great-grandchildren Dalayna and Rhiannah DeVoe, and Deakin Hoffert; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three honorary grandchildren, Adam Hance, Joshua Kent and Brett Czepiel. She was predeceased by her brother, Gordon, in 1995, and her sister, Jean Gleasman, in 2009. Irene's family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to her care givers, Jane Cihocki, Nicky Bourgeois, and Michelle Miller, for the kind and loving care they provided for Irene. Her funeral will be Saturday at 10:15 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, where Rev. Sean P. O'Brien, pastor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville. Calling hours are Friday 1-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
