Irene E. Gydesen

Port Leyden - Irene E. Gydesen, 95, widow of Velton, longtime resident of Kelpytown Road, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Lewis County General Hospital. Irene was born in Kelpytown on March 13, 1923 a daughter of Clarence and Nettie Lane Adams. She received her education at Port Leyden Central School. For many years, Irene was employed at the Lowville Tree Nursery, Lally Manufacturing Co., Port Leyden and as a domestic in Port Leyden area homes. On December 20, 1941, Irene was united in marriage with Velton J. Gydesen, at the home of the bride in Kelpytown. From 1946-1970 the couple resided on North Street in the village of Port Leyden. Mr. Gydesen, a US Army veteran of WWII, and retiree of Georgia Pacific Paper Company, passed away on September 12, 1993. Mrs. Gydesen was a member of The Lyons Falls Bible Fellowship Church and she greatly enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, going to the Turning Stone Casino and reading. Irene is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Linda and David Evans, Zephyrhills, FL, Jane and Donald Kent, Portsmouth, VA; three sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Christine Gydesen, Lyons Falls, David and Shelly Gydesen, Port Leyden, Joseph and Shelly Gydesen, Port Leyden; nine grandchildren, Brad and Matt Evans, Stephen and Christopher Kent, Tabitha Foll, Cody and Jade Gydesen, Kimberly Hirschey, Justin Gydesen, nine great grandchildren, Taylor, Todd, Alyssa, Camron, Cassidy, Bern, Tyson, Courtney, Cheyanne and Melissa. Irene was predeceased by a great grandchild, Adrianna Evans. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Cook, Boonville and Thelma Axtell, Lowville. In keeping with Irenes wishes, Funeral Services and visitation will be held privately at the convenience of the family at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment private, in Port Leyden Cemetery.
