Utica- Ida Lucy (Bourgeois) Carney, 87, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012, while surrounded by the love of her family and pastor, after a long illness, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Ida was born in Port Leyden, on October 16, 1924, a daughter of George J. and Helen G. Young Bourgeois. She grew up in Port Leyden, and in West Leyden, where she worked on her family's dairy farm on Rt. 26. She attended school in West Leyden. Later Ida was employed as a cook and waitress at the Boonville Hotel. For many years she was employed as a secretary at General Electric of Utica, Remington Rand Corp. and for the Roll Fast Bicycle Co. of Little Falls. For a time she was also employed at Marcy Psychiatric Center. Many years ago she moved to Florida where she lived in the Largo and St. Petersburg area for 25 years. In 2003, Ida moved to Utica, and resided with her daughter Mary E. Jones, and grandson Matthew, until entering the hospital in November, 2011. Mrs. Carney was a member of City Hope Fellowship Foursquare Gospel Church, Utica, the Knights of Columbus in Florida, and Eastern Star Chapter # 452 of Utica. She greatly enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, singing and dancing. For many years Ida was a foster mother. She married Paul Neuman, and the couple had four children: Frank (Linda) Neuman, Woodstock CT, Paula Leal, Banning, CA, Joseph (Ginger) Neuman, and Mary E. Jones, Utica. Mr. Neuman predeceased her, and she married William Baldwin; together they had a son, Dennis William Baldwin, of Florida. After her second husband died, she married Francis Carney of Utica, on February 2, 1996, in Florida. Mr. Carney predeceased her in 2003. She was a grandmother to: Amy Walan, and Jennifer, Daniel Leal, and Penelope, Nancy Desmond, and Cynthia, Matthew Jones, and Anthony Baldwin, great grandmother to: Mike, Christopher, Sarah, Allison, Lilly and Bradley. She was also survived by two brothers, Alfred, and Bernard. Ida was predeceased by four sisters, Faith Bundrick, Doris Cavanaugh, Gertrude, and Mary; and by two brothers, Maurice and Joseph. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service and celebration of her life, on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at 6:30 P.M. at City Hope Fellowship Foursquare Gospel Church at 1415 Sunset Ave. Utica, where Pastor Bradley Hudson will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. Her funeral arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
