Utica- Howard E. St. John, 78, formerly of Deer Run Road, Forestport, husband of the late Barbara, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2016, while under the care of his daughter, Sharon, at Utica Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Utica. A native of Utica, Howard was born on April 21, 1937, a son of Windsor and Odila Surprenant St. John. He grew up in Utica, and attended St. Frances DeSales High School. Mr. St. John was employed for at Kelsey Hayes Co. Utica; later he was employed for 38 years as a tool and die maker at Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. Utica. After his retirement from Chicago Pneumatic, Howard was employed as a greeter at the North Utica Walmart. On April 24, 1965, Howard was united in marriage with Barbara Wagner, at St. Mary's Church, Utica, where Rev. Norman St. John, brother of Howard officiated. In 1976, the couple moved to Forestport, settling on Deer Run Road. Mrs. St. John, an active member of St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, passed away on October 16, 2009. Mr. St. John was an active member of St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, where he served as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, church custodian and grounds keeper. He was a member Boonville Council Knights of Columbus. Howard is survived by two daughters, Sharon St. John, Utica, Kathleen Dunlap and husband, Richard, Batavia; one son Christopher St. John, Forestport; five grandchildren, Kurtis, Hannah and Ryan Dunlap and Alaina and Alexander St. John. The last of his siblings, Howard was predeceased by five brothers; Raymond, Leo, Norman, Eugene and Walter; and by one sister, Theresa. A Prayer will be Tuesday at 10:15 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at Christ Our Hope Catholic Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, where Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Forestport. Calling hours are Monday 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
