Boonville- Henry J. "Hank" Daskiewich, 91, of Ford St., husband of Marilyn passed away in the comfort of his residence on Monday, July 5, 2021. Hank was born in Utica, on April 22, 1930, a son of Henry H. and Mary Kowalik Daskiewich and he lived his entire life in Boonville, growing up on Potato Hill, before moving to the village and graduating from Boonville Central High School, with the Class of 1949. From November, 1953, until his honorable discharge in November, 1955, Mr. Daskiewich served his country in the U.S. Army, in England, during the Korean Conflict era. On October 25, 1958, Hank was united in marriage with Marilyn Berliner at St. Mary's Church, Manhasset, Long Island, NY. Thereafter the couple settled in Boonville and had lived on Ford St. for many years. In early 1964, Hank, his wife, Marilyn and Hank's mother, Mary, purchased the Hulbert House, Hotel, Bar and Restaurant, located in the center of Boonville and established in 1812, from the Garbarino family. Together Hank and Marilyn and Mary, with members of the Kowalik and Daskiewich family operated the landmark business, which under their ownership became famous throughout central and Northern New York for fine food and great hospitality. Mary, Hank and Marilyn were noted for their roasted prime rib and Hank will be fondly remembered for his home made rolls and to die for home made in the Hulbert House, potato chips. In the 1960's and again in 1980, Hank enlarged the restaurant facilities at the Hulbert House. He remained active in the Hulbert House until it closed in 2016. Hank will also be fondly remembered for his love of Baseball; his son Frank called Hank the "Original Sand Lot." Hank enjoyed and excelled at playing baseball in high school and on area town teams. For many years he served as umpire for area baseball games and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan, enjoying many trips with his family to watch the Cardinals play at ball parks nearer to Boonville. Many years ago Hank and other likeminded people founded the Adirondack Boosters Club, an organization for the purpose of assisting in funding local sports programs. In the early 1960's Hank and others banded together to found the format of Boonville Little League Baseball, followed by the Boonville Little League Ball Park, on Rt. 12, a facility which over the years has been expanded to become the BYAA Ballfield of today. For several years Hank coached the Kiwanis Little League Baseball Team. Mr. Daskiewich was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, Boonville Lodge of Elks # 2158, Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion, Boonville Kiwanis Club, Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce and he served as a volunteer at the Boonville Canal Museum. Hank greatly enjoyed reading the Boonville Herald, Rome Sentinel and doing cross word and Sudoku Puzzles. In addition to his wife, Marilyn, of nearly 63 years, Hank is survived by his children; son, Michael Daskiewich; daughters and son in law, Tracy Dickson, and Eileen (Richard) Esch; and son, Francis Daskiewich. He was predeceased by a son, David, on September 1, 2018. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jacob Dickson, Dayna (Alex) Miller, Kathryn (Daniel) Santoro, Emily Dickson, Lauren Esch, Madison Esch and Connor Henry Daskiewich. Also surviving are two aunts, Helen Garbarino and Sophie Rosinski and Hank's special friend and loyal employee of many years, Paul Hance. Relatives and friends are invited at attend a Memorial Mass celebrated by Rev. Matthew Rawson, on Friday, July 9th, at 1:30 P.M. at St. Joseph's Church, Charles St. Boonville, with interment to follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boonville, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post # 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W. and the Tun Tavern Leatherneck Marine Corps League will confer Military Rites. There are no calling hours.
