Helen L. Roser

~~Port Leyden - Helen L. Roser, 88, widow of Leon, longtime resident of Whitton Place Apartments, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. Helen was born at home in Boonville on February 18, 1929 a daughter of Benjamin F. and Clara E. Conklin Compo. She was educated in Boonville and Lyonsdale schools. She was employed for a time at the Moyer and Pratt Mill in Lyonsdale and at Lally Manufacturing Co., Port Leyden. On October 24, 1948, Helen was united in marriage with Leon F. Roser at the Ava Hilltop United Methodist Church. The couple lived in Constableville, West Leyden, Texas City, Texas and the Port Leyden area. Mr. Roser passed away on May 17, 1996. Thereafter, Helen has resided at Whitton Place Apartments, Port Leyden. Helen greatly enjoyed playing Pitch, Bingo, and watching baseball games on tv. She also enjoyed attending the Boonville-Oneida County and Lewis County fairs, where she loved playing I Got It and riding the Merry-Go-Round. Helen is survived by one son, Darrel (Doris) Roser, Clarksville, TN, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers: James Compo, and Richard (Tina) Compo, both of Port Leyden, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Leon, Helen was predeceased by her daughter Carol Ann Lain in 2008, her son Robert Allen Roser in 2017, and siblings: Georgianna Jean Waterman, Betty Lou Houghton, Dorothy McEwen, Marjorie Post, Bernard Compo, Arthur Compo; and Benjamin, Rose Marie, and Josephine who died in infancy. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Steve Bolin of New Covenant Church, Port Leyden will officiate. Interment will follow in Port Leyden Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Port Leyden Fire Co., 3387 Douglas St. Port Leyden, NY 13433.
