Helen I. Weiler

West Leyden- Helen I. Weiler, 90, a longtime resident of State Rt. 294, widow of Alvin, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where she had resided since October, 2013. She was born in the Town of Leyden, on January 10, 1926, a daughter of William and Helen Fuller LaQuay. She grew up in Talcottville, attending Boonville Central School, graduating with the Class of 1944. Thereafter, Helen was employed in private duty health care. For twenty five years, Mrs. Weiler was employed as a Certified Nurse's Aide at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, retiring in 1997. On June 22, 1946, Helen was united in marriage with Alvin J. Weiler, at St. Mary's Nativity Church, West Leyden, with Fr. Edward Rivette officiating. This was a loving union of 62 years, until Alvin passed away on August 12, 2008. Mr. Weiler was a highly decorated Veteran of the European Theater of WWII, and a self-employed logger for over 50 years. Mrs. Weiler was a member of St. Mary's Nativity Church, West Leyden. She will be fondly remembered for her delicious homemade donuts which she greatly enjoyed making and sharing with her family and friends. Helen is survived by four daughters and three sons in law; Sally Clarke, New York Mills, Nancy (Brian) Dumont, West Leyden, Carol (James) Dykstra, Monroe, NY, Susan (Rick) Malek, Rome; three sons and daughters in law, Gary (Robin) Weiler, Taberg, Terry (Tammy) Weiler, West Leyden and Wayne (Tina) Weiler, Boonville. Mrs. Weiler was predeceased by two sons, Alvin, Jr. on May 29, 2008 and Robert, in 1951. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great great grandson; two brothers, Grant LaQuay, Forestport and Larry (Carol) LaQuay, St. Petersburg, FL and three sisters, Shirley (George) Weiler, West Leyden, Louella (Paul) Kightlinger, Tuscon, AZ, and Donna (David) Douglass, Boonville and a daughter in law, Margaret L. Weiler, West Leyden and many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by three sisters, Jacqueline Witek, Muriel Sanger and Lucille Ustler and by a brother, Roger LaQuay and a son-in-law, Francis Clarke. A Prayer Service will be on Saturday at 9:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Nativity Church, West Leyden, with interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Leyden. Calling hours are Friday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.
