Harry Raymond Jenks, 92, of Boonville, NY, husband of June, passed away on Feb. 8, 2021, while under hospice care at the Abraham House in Rome, NY. Harry was born on Aug. 18, 1928 a son of Raymond and Ruth Hines Jenks in Boonville NY and grew up on Lewis Rd. After graduating from Boonville High School in 1946, Harry worked on the family farm before entering the military service, in the Army, in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1956. In 1944 Harry met June Leichty, and they were wed on Dec. 20 1951. While the day they married was one of the worst blizzards to be had, their loving relationship over the 69 years they were together was one of warmth and mutual love for one another. Harry and June together raised four children, Mark (Janis), Tucson, AZ, Lori (Randy), Waterport, NY, Steve (Sandi), Baldwinsville, NY and Bruce, Sherrill, NY. Harry loved being around his grandchildren, Leigh Ann, Ashley, Meredith, Cory, Josh, David and Mitchell. Harry also had nine great grandchildren who he loved dearly. Besides his children, Harry is also survived by his wife, June of Boonville, NY and his sister Jane (Jack) Swancott of Boonville. He was predeceased by his brothers C. James and Robert and granddaughter Jamie. Harry, was known around Boonville as a "jack of all trades' who did plumbing, electrical and carpentry work for those in need of repairs. He held a number of "regular" jobs including his work at Ohm's Gas Station and Rome Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome, where he worked for over 25 years. He enjoyed fixing up washers, dryers, refrigerators or most any appliance which came his way and then selling them. After retiring in 1985, Harry enjoyed tending to his garden, mowing his lawn and playing scratcher tickets which he did religiously, win or lose. Every once in a while hitting a winner, but most times he would pass off his losers as "highway robbery"! He enjoyed "puttering" around the house and taking his grandchildren on rides along the back roads in the area, showing them there was more than one way to beat the traffic during the Fair and Woodsmen Field Days. Harry was a kind soul who never had a negative thing to say about anyone. He spoke softly, worked hard and was willing to help those in need. His legacy will be one of the kindness, knowledge, wisdom and compassion he shared with us and it will be difficult to fill the hole left in our hearts with his passing. This is best expressed in a tribute to him from the Abraham House⦠"If life went on without the presence of Harry we could only conclude that his life made no contribution, filled no space, meant nothing. "The fact that Harry left behind a place that cannot be filled is a high tribute to him." Visitation hours are Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 10:00 A.M. until 12 Noon at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. followed by services at the funeral home at 12 Noon. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 10, 2021, with Military Rites provided by Charles J. Love Post # 406, American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and The Tun Tavern Leathernecks Marine Corps League. A memorial contribution may be made to the Boonville Ambulance or the Abraham House in Rome, NY.
