Harold Lenaghen

June 30, 1924 — February 21, 2010

Westernville - Harold Lenaghen, 85, of Westernville passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2010 with his best friend and family by his side. He had been a patient at Rome Memorial Hospital for the past three weeks. Harold was born on June 30, 1924 in Oriskany to John R. and Ada (Jacobs) Lenaghen. He moved to the Town of Western at a young age, and attended Town of Western Schools. Harold was employed at Spargo Wire Co., Rome, for 40 years before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the North Western United Methodist Church, Sons of the American Legion-Western Memorial Post #1846 and the Volunteer Fire Co. of Western, Inc. Harold was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include his best friend and companion of 22 years, Wilhelmina Radell of Westernville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Jeannette Lenaghen of Oneida, and Richard and Roseanne Lenaghen of Queensbury; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ernest Gomez of San Antonio, TX, Joan and Steven Vrooman of Holland Patent, and Carol and David Silver of Rome; three brothers, John and Mary of Steuben, Richard and Greta of AK, and Carlton of Boonville; and a sister, Nora Wiedmer of Boonville. He was "Grandpa" to 9 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters, and "Grandpa Harold" to Willie's grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a former wife Mary (Dosiek) Lenaghen. Harold was predeceased by four brothers, Kenneth, Leon, Loren and Leonard, and granddaughter Renee Mills. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25 at 11:00 am at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville, with the Rev'd Robert Wollaber officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Internment will be in the spring at Westernville Cemetery.
