Boonville - Harold J. Winters, 83, a former resident of Sudol Hill Road, husband of Phyllis, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since 2011. He was born in Boonville, on March 11, 1932, a son of William M. and Bessie Eliza Parkhurst Winters. Harold grew up in Boonville, where he received his education at Boonville Central School. In 1952, he entered the US Air Force, serving his country during the Korean Conflict in the 75th Fighter Squadron, until his honorable discharge on October 17, 1955. On May 4, 1957, Harold was united in marriage with Phyllis A. Sturtevant at the Boonville Methodist Church. Thereafter the couple lived on Sudol Hill Road, near Boonville, until Mr. Winters entered the nursing home. Mr. Winters was employed at Foster Paper Co. Utica, before 35 years of employment as a paper maker Georgia Pacific Paper Co. Lyons Falls, retiring in 1994, from Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper Co. Harold greatly enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in high school and he was an avid fan of the NY Giants Football Team, NY Yankee Baseball and a SU Orange Basketball Fan. For two years he coached Forestport Little League teams. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis, he is survived by two daughters, Laurie (Gordon) Hastwell, Sr. Boonville and Ramona (Paul) Rickard, Cold Brook, NY; one son, Michael J. (Patricia) Winters, Boonville; nine grandchildren, Gordon Hastwell, Jr., Laura Hastwell, Thomas (Stephanie) Hastwell, Nicole Rickard, Rachel Rickard, Jamie Rickard, Michael C. (Rachel) Winters, Nicholas Winters and Tiffany Winters and two great grandchildren, Tory Miller and Abgail Winters. He was predeceased by one brother, William Winters in 1996. The Winters family expresses their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility for the excellent and compassionate care rendered to Harold. His Funeral will be Thursday at 8:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. also on Thursday. Members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion # 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and the Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will meet in a group at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Resident Activities Fund 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309.
