Constableville- Harold G. "Blink" Hayes, 90 a life long resident of Mohawk Hill, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2008, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Boonville. He was born on February 20, 1918, a son of George and Rose Lengheim Hayes. For most of his life he was self-employed as a dairy farmer in the Town of West Turin. After retiring in 1980, he became well known for his Strawberry Patch on Kessler Road. Harold was a member of the former St. John's Lutheran Church, Mohawk Hill, and for many years was active in the upkeep and operation of the Church cemetery. After serving for many years in the Constableville Volunteer Fire Company, he became an honorary member and was a past president of the department. Harold was a Justice of the Peace and a past Councilman for the Town of West Turin. He was a very active in the farming community which included being a member of the Lyons Falls Agway Board of Directors and he served on the Cornell Cooperative Extension. His hobbies included bowling, collecting old bottles, marching with the fire company, and traveling with his son, Ed. He was married to Barbara Carpenter on September 14, 1957, at the Baptist Church of Boonville. Mrs. Hayes died on February 3, 1997. Harold is survived by three daughters, Juliette E. Hayes, New Zealand, Margaret (Peggy) A. Kirk, Constableville, Mary H. Wiedmer and husband, James, Boonville, two sons, Richard Hayes and his wife, Barbara, Edward J. Hayes, both of Constableville, and ten grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald. Harold is also survived by an honorary family member, Gayle Morczek, his caregiver in the latter years of his life. The family will always have special memories of picnics at "the Pond" and corn roasts at Apple Tree Park. His Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment at the convenience of the family will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Mohawk Hill. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Constableville Fire Company.
