Guy E. Horton

Guy E. Horton, 82, a long time resident of State Rt. 28, husband of Patricia, passed away at his residence while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, February 26, 2006. Guy was born in Hinckley, (Town of Russia) on July 21, 1923, a son of Frank and Myrtle Wheeler Horton. He attended Forestport Central School, and during his senior year of high school, Guy left his studies to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he served during WW II throughout the world. On September 22, 1944, Guy was united in marriage with Patricia Penree at St. Patrickï¿(TM)s Church of Utica, with The Rev. Daniel Lawler officiating. After Guyï¿(TM)s honorable discharge from the Navy in November, 1945, the couple settled in Utica, where they lived until 1953 when they purchased a home on Walker Rd, Town of Deerfield. In 1964, the couple constructed a new home on Walker Road living there until 1968. From 1948, until 1968, Mr. Horton was employed in the steel shop department of Charles Millar Steel Co. of Utica. In 1968 they moved to their present home in Otter Lake, when they purchased the Footeï¿(TM)s Restaurant and Bar on Rt. 28. For ten years the couple, along with Guyï¿(TM)s brother in law, Jack Penree, operated the establishment, named "The Four Seasons Inn," expanding the restaurant aspect of the business. In 1978, they closed the business, and continued to reside in the attached residence. Mr. Horton was a member of St. Mary of the Snows Church of Otter Lake, where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister. For many years including the present time, Guy served as Lay Trustee of St. Mary of the Snows Church. At Christmas, 2005, Mr. Horton was presented with a plaque of recognition for his many years of dedicated service to the parish, this special recognition coming from Most Rev. James M. Moynihan, Bishop, Syracuse Diocese, and Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen, Pastor. Soon after moving to Otter Lake, Mr. Horton joined the Otter Lake Fire, Department and for eleven years he served as Department Chief. During his tenure as chief, he was involved with the purchase of the departmentï¿(TM)s first modern fire truck. After his service as chief, he continued to be active in the fire department, at the present time he was an honorary member. In addition to his wife, Patricia, Guy is survived by his five daughters and three sons in law: Phyllis Hiscox, Susan and Thomas Abrial, Linda and Raymond Plunkett, Heidi and Daniel Abrial, his special daughter, Nancy L. Horton, four grandchildren: Jeff and Kristin Abrial, Heather Plunkett, Sarah Abrial, one great grand daughter: Mickayla Earl, a brother in law; Jack Penree, all residing in Otter Lake, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and by four brothers. His Funeral will be Wednesday at 12:45 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, and at 2 P.M. at St. Mary of the Snows Church of Otter Lake, where Rev. Fr. Donald H. Karlen will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in the spring at White Lake Cemetery of Woodgate. Calling hours are Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and Wednesday 11:30 A.M. until 12:45 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of the Snows Church, Otter Lake, or to Otter Lake Fire Department.
