Glenfield-Greta I. Ruane Norton, 98, formerly of Blue St., Glenfield, a native of Rome, and wife of the late Leonard Patrick Ruane, and James A. Norton, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2006, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boonville. Mrs. Norton had been a resident at the home since October 18, 1999. Greta was born on December 31, 1907, a daughter of Perle Chester and Mable Sarah Montague Colp. She was a resident of Rome, until 1947, when she moved to Glenfield where she resided until moving to the nursing home. She was united in marriage with Leonard Patrick Ruane in 1925. Mr. Ruane died on December 24, 1942. In December, 1946, Greta was united in marriage with James A. Norton at St. Peterï¿(TM)s Church of Lowville. Mr. Norton died on February 1, 1979. Mrs. Norton was a member of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church of Glenfield, a former long time member of St. Maryï¿(TM)s Altar and Rosary Society, and a member of the Glenfield Senior Citizens. Her survivors include two sons and a daughter in law; Leonard J. Ruane, Ocean Side, CA., Ronald A. Ruane and Barbara, Rome. Mrs. Norton was predeceased by her daughter Mrs. Marabee June Hartness on May 4, 1993. She is also survived by one step daughter; Shirley Tavormina, Nokomis, Fla., eleven grandchildren; Debra and husband, James Brown, Lynda and husband, David Jones, Jan and husband, Douglas Singleton, Ms. Cynthia Ruane, all of Rome, Michael and wife, Jan Hartness, Keene, N.H., Brian T. Hartness, Watertown, Bruce T. Hartness, Rome, Jacqueline Ciccloella and husband, Paul, Deerfield, Donna Ruane, Steven Ruane, and Mark Ruane, all of California, seven great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter, and her son in law; Richard Hartness, Greig. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 11 A.M. at St. Maryï¿(TM)s Church of Glenfield, where Rev. Christopher Looby, Parochial Vicar of St. Peterï¿(TM)s Church of Lowville, will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Peterï¿(TM)s Cemetery of Rome. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Resident Activates Fund, 232 Academy St. Boonville, NY 13309. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
