Graham John Nellis

Hawkinsville- Graham John Nellis, 81, of Hayes Road, East, husband of Ramona, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica. John was born in Little Falls, on February 11, 1937, a son of Graham John and Ida Mae Stewart Nellis. He grew up in the Mayfield area, graduating from Northville High School, with The Class of 1956. While in high school, during the summers, John was employed at the Adirondack Hotel on Great Sacandaga Lake, at Northville. After completing his education, John was first employed at the Crushed Rock Stone Quarry in Pattersonville. Later he learned the electrical trade while employed for Fritz Moller Co. of Benson, NY and was employed as an electrician in building construction. He was also employed at the Art Hoag Building Moving Co. of Rome. In 1966, John began his employment at the New York State School for the Deaf in Rome, retiring as supervisor of maintenance in 1995. From 1958 until his honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant in 1967, John served his country in the New York Army National Guard, serving out of Gloversville, NY. On September 2, 1960, John was united in marriage with Ramona M. Wilson, at the Gloversville Methodist Church and this was a loving union which endured for nearly 58 years. Afterwards the couple resided in the Mayfield area, until settling in Hawkinsville in 1967. John attended the New Covenant Church, Port Leyden and the Boonville United Methodist Church and the Boonville Rod and Gun Club. He greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Hawkinsville and Woodgate area. He also enjoyed kayaking and camping with his family. In addition to his wife, Ramona, John is survived by his children, Kelly Myers, Hawkinsville, Margaret (Bernie) Ward, Constableville, James (Brenda) Nellis, Hawkinsville, Penny (Mike) Mulkey, Boonville, Thomas (Jennifer) Nellis, Oneida; grandchildren and great grandchildren; Pennie (Christopher) Hutchins, Khloe and Alana, Anthony (Shannon) Myers, Rae Lynn and Maxon, Lisa Myers (Alexander Pfendler), Brayden, Tanner, Maddox, Mitchell, Marissa and Mariah Ward, Nicole (Douglas) Henry, Peighton, Addison, Parker, Ryan (Chantal) Nellis, Easton, Emerson, Eli, Kerri (Ryan) Egnaczyk, Landon, Jason (Heather) Backer, Mason, Kaelana Backer, (Janice), Tyler and Tori Nellis. Funeral Services will be Monday at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in Boonville Cemetery.
