Glenn D. Satterly

November 10, 1931 — March 19, 2023

Port Leyden- Glenn D. Satterly, 91, of East Main St., husband of the late Catherine Scouten Satterly, passed away, on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, after a short illness.


Glenn was born in Boonville, on November 10, 1931, a son of Everett F. and Rhena C. Hurlburt Satterly. He grew up in Boonville, where he received his education at Boonville High School. Thereafter, Glenn was first employed for Everett G. Jones, Florist of Boonville, as a laborer. From there he went to work for Brant Excelsior Manufacturing Co., Hawkinsville, as a laborer and then a plant foreman. Before moving on to employment with Mercer’s Dairy, Boonville, as an ice cream delivery truck driver.


On July 5, 1958, Glenn was united in marriage with Catherine M. Scouten, in St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden. Mrs. Satterly passed away on July 1, 2001.


For four years Glenn and Catherine managed a Convenient Food Mart, in the Washington Mills section of New Hartford. His last employment for fifteen years was as a custodian and school bus driver, for South Lewis Central School District, retiring as head custodian at Port Leyden Elementary School.


He was a member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Port Leyden and a member of the Lewis County Planning Board. Glenn possessed a strong work ethic and may he also be remembered for his keen mind, and interest in history, politics, as well as learning about places throughout the United States and also how motors, engines and other mechanical wonders functioned. He and Catherine greatly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, and was an avid New York Mets Baseball Fan. Glenn will be fondly remembered for his delicious homemade baked beans made with 239 Great Northern Beans.


Glenn is survived by his children; Barbara Fields, Greenbrier, AR, Edward Satterly, Port Leyden, Thomas (Adele) Satterly, Pt. St. Lucie, FL, Alesia Olney (Donald) Woodgate and Glenda (Jeff) Meehan, Rock Hill, SC; grandchildren, Edward Davis, Billy Davis, Elizabeth Bailey, Stephany Satterly, Matthew Satterly, Michael Olney, Dana Olney, Brandon Olney, Kalyn Olney, Sarah Sulllivan, Alissa Fleming and Erin Ford and several great grandchildren; one brother, Dick (Joann) Satterly, Boonville; brother in law, Jim (Nancy) Scouten, Port Leyden; sister in law, Susan (Markham) Scouten, Port Leyden and several nieces and nephews. Glenn was predeceased by siblings, Bertha Satterly, Everett F. Satterly, Jr., Robert Satterly, Jean Greco, Donald Satterly, Caryl Donnelly, Linda Mc Philmy; brother in law, Raymond (Mike) Scouten, Mother and father in law, Mary (Beck) Scouten and Wesley M. Scouten.


His Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo will be the celebrant. Interment later this spring will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367. His arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. Boonville.
