Geraldine R. Coe

April 17, 1942 — December 21, 2022

Remsen- Geraldine (Rowlands) Coe, of Evans Road, widow of Walter C. passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, while surrounded by the loving care of her family, at Rome Health, where she had resided since August, 2021.


She was born in Rome, on April 17, 1942, a daughter of Edward H. and Frances E. Casler Rowlands. Geraldine grew up in the Town of Steuben, and graduated from Remsen Central School with the Class of 1960. For many years she was employed as a Therapy Aide at Rome Developmental Center, retiring in 1996. For a time she was also employed at Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville. She greatly enjoyed cooking, doing crafts and sewing along with raising her family, and now for the past several years, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After they retired, the couple greatly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada.


On August 11, 1962, she was united in marriage with Walter C. Coe, at the Remsen Methodist Church. After their marriage the couple lived on the East Road, near Talcottville, for many years, before moving to Verona where they lived until moving to her present home near Remsen in 1997. Mr. Coe a Veteran of the U.S. Army and a retiree of the Rome Developmental Center, passed away on June 23, 2010.


She is survived by three daughters: Diane and Jeff Ward, Darlene and Tom Bourgeois, all of Remsen, Donna Phillips, Boonville. Geraldine was predeceased by a son, Douglas Coe, who passed away as an infant. Also survivng are six grandchildren; Amanda (Josh) Krebs, Branden (Sarah) Ward, Ashley Paciello, Kayla (Brian) Hrim, Kyle (Miranda) Phillips, and Katelyn (Ron) Spann; great grandchildren, Brinley, Taylor, Teagan and Easton Krebs, Benjamin and Jacob Paciello, Auna and Joanna Ward, Natalia Hrim and Evelyn Phillips and Ronald and John Spann. She was predeceased by a brother, William Rowlands in 2015.


Geraldine’s family sends a note of thanks and great appreciation to the entire staff of the third floor of Rome Health, for the kind and compassionate care which they gave to Geraldine.


In keeping with her wishes a private graveside service will be held in the spring of 2023, in Fairchild Cemetery, Remsen. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to RHCF Activities Department, C/O Megan Absolom at 1500 North James St. Rome, NY 13440. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc, Boonville.
