Gerald S. '"Joe"' Rogers

Lyons Falls-Gerald S. "Joe" Rogers, Jr., 61, of Old Rt. 12, formerly of Burdick's Crossing Road, passed away suddenly on July 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. He was born in Lowville, on May 5, 1947, a son of the late Gerald S. and Beatrice Hutchins Rogers, Sr. His life was lived in the Lyons Falls and Glen Field area, where he received his education at General Martin School, Glenfield. In 1970, Mr. Rogers enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Viet Nam Era, receiving an honorable discharge. He was employed as a truck driver for Law Bros. Construction Co., then at Marmon Fuel Co., and later he owned and operated Joe Rogers Auto Body Shop, all in Lyons Falls. Then Joe was employed as a furnace repairman for Boonville Oil Co., before his retirement due to disability in 1992, from Boonville Division of Mohawk Valley Oil Co. After he retired, Joe founded a country band known as the "Over the Hill Boys," where he was the lead singer and guitarist, the original band members being; Curly Vaughn, Fred Ely, Gary McIntyre, and later George Harrington joined the group. He enjoyed hunting, the out of doors and the restoration of antique cars and trucks. Mr. Rogers is survived by two daughters, Lori Sellers, Watertown, Nancy Abel and husband, Frank, Boonville, one son, timothy J. Rogers, and wife, Shannon, Berwick ME., six grandchildren; Steven Smith, Brianne Smith, Mallory Abel, Kasey, Jorden, and Reese Rogers, one sister, Darlene Burdick, and husband, Albert, Glenfield. He was predeceased by a brother, Larry R. Rogers in 2000. He is also survived by his fiance and loving companion of 17 years, Barbara Cough. His Funeral Service will be Monday at 12 Noon at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Constableville, will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville, where members of the Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post V.F.W., and the Tun Tavern Leather Necks Marine Corps League will provide Military Rites. Calling hours are Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral at the funeral home.
