Turin- Gerald R. Emerson, 60, of East Road, husband of Hakkyoung, passed away on Wednesday March 2, 2016, at ST. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford, after a long illness. He was born in Constableville, on January 20, 1956, a son of Frank Richard and Shirley Leffingwell Emerson. He grew up in Constableville and Turin, attending Constableville Elementary School, graduating from South Lewis Senior High School, with the Class of 1974. While in high school, Gerald attended BOCES, where he majored in electrical technology. For many years Mr. Emerson was employed as an electrician with Phase 4 Builders of Turin; later he was employed as a custodian for several years at Port Leyden Elementary School, retiring in 2015. On August 4, 1990, Gerald was united in marriage with Hakkyoung Na, at their residence on East Road. Gerald enjoyed hunting, walking and he was very gifted with his ability to repair a wide variety of items. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one brother, Bruce (Penny) Emerson, Turin; two sisters, Laurie (Scott) Goodhines, Constableville, and Lisa Baxter, Port Leyden; a sister in law and brother in law, Kyongcha (Patrick) Nellenback, Great Bend, NY, and several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Richard, in 1964; later his mother, Shirley, married Maurice F. "Chick" Baxter, Jr. who predeceased Gerald in 2007; his mother, Shirley, passed away in 2003. He was also predeceased by one brother, Thomas Emerson, 2004. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, March 7, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. There are no calling hours. Interment will be in Turin Cemetery, in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis Co. Hospice, Inc. P.O. Box 266 Lowville, NY 13367.
