Rome - Gerald McCanney, 80, formerly of Rome and Turin, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at his home in Selma, NC. Gerald was born on Mohawk Hill on July 11, 1929, a son of James and Rose (Hoffert) McCanney. For three years he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. In November 1951, Gerald married Esther Myers. The couple later divorced. He was a self-employed carpenter, and for several years he worked for Law Brothers of Lyons Falls. Survivors include his longtime companion, Alice Morak; three sons, Robert McCanney of Greig, Linden McCanney and his wife, Julie, of Turin, and Ronald McCanney and his wife, Pam, of West Monroe, NY; four daughters, Judith Karelus and her husband, John, and Susan Burnham, all of Lowville, Patricia Gorczyca of Lyons Falls, and Laurie Kapfer and her husband, Lynn, of Rotterdam, NY; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers, Norman, Jerome, Aubrey, Donald, and Lyndon McCanney, and a sister, Bernice Percoskie. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 8, at 2:00 p.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
