Port Leyden- Gerald L. "Jerry" Mooney, 76, of Moose River Road, husband of the late Constance, passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 3, 2021, while under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice. Jerry was born on October 24, 1944, in Fowlerville, Town of Lyonsdale, a son of Jesse and Mildred Rocker Mooney. He grew up in Fowlerville, attending a rural school. For many years Jerry was a self-employed logger throughout Northern New York and owner of C. & J. Logging Co. of Port Leyden. On January 18, 1985, Jerry was united in marriage with Constance May "Connie" Salmon, in Constableville. Thereafter the couple lived in Pennysettlement for many years, before moving to their present home. For many years the couple operated CJ's Diner in Brantingham and the Brantingham Post Office, retiring in 1996. Mrs. Mooney passed away on October 14, 2018. Jerry was a woodsman through and through; he greatly enjoyed his occupation of logging, hunting and fishing and taking a daily walk through the forest. He also treasured his role of grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Recently, in keeping with Jerry's wishes, he was Baptized Presbyterian, by Elizabeth Smith, of Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls. Jerry is survived by a son and daughter in law, John (Cheryl) Burdick, Sr. a daughter and son in law, Michelle (Clifford) Cowell, son, Kevin Burdick and companion, Holly Yelton; grandchildren, John Burdick, Jr., Mitchell Burdick, Kayla (Ryan) Weber, Derek (Katie) Carpenter, Mackenzie (Taylor) Dorrity, Shawna Burdick, Kaleb Burdick; great grandchildren, Isabella Burdick, Gannon Burdick, Laila Burdick, Jordan Weber and Danika Weber, Mariah Dorrity, Mallory Dorrity and Susie Carpenter; brothers and sisters in law, Dick and Mona Mooney, Ted and Darlene Mooney, Keith and Nancy Mooney; two sisters in law, Paula Mooney, and Elizabeth Mooney. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Chloe Burdick, his parents, Jesse and Mildred and his siblings, Susie Houghton, Mary Lou Wearne, Vernon Mooney, Kenneth Mooney and Joseph Mooney. His Funeral will be Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Pastor Elizabeth Smith from Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls, will officiate. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls. Calling hours are Thursday 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O.
