Boonville- George E. Hutchins, 78, passed away at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Uitca, on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family: Helen, his loving wife of 43 years, his son, George Michael Hutchins, and children, Shawn Michael, and Shelby Marie; his son and daughter in law, Robert P. and Kimberly Hutchins and their daughter, Justine Suzanna; his brother and sister in law, Gerald F. and Shirley Hutchins and their children and grandchildren; and a sister and brother in law, Kay L. and Clifford Widrick and their children and grandchildren. George was born in Turin, on April 24, 1934, to Everett P. and Mabel Weaver Hutchins. His younger life was spent in Turin, before moving to Barrett's Corners, near Boonville, where he attended a rural school, later completing his education at Boonville Central School. He followed in his father's footsteps and pursued a career in the trucking industry. At the tender age of 16, George took his first truck driving job. In those early years, he developed his love of "hauling;" his first employment was for John Wawrzyniak, Talcottville, followed by driving truck for Olney Failing, Boonville, D.L. Reed, West Carthage, Francis Duflo, Croghan and Baillie Lumber Co. Boonville. On August 29, 1969, George married Helen M. Baker in a ceremony held in Madison, NY. In 1972, George lost the use of his legs as the result of a trucking accident and used a wheelchair for the next forty years. In spite of that loss, he continued with this lifelong passion in trucking and began G.E. Hutchins Transport, in 1973, with a single big rig and a sole driver, his brother, Jerry. Over the years his trucking firm grew to include as many as fourteen trucks and nearly twenty employees. His drivers, employees and suppliers became a part of the extended family that he cared for every day. His greatest pleasures in life included spending time with his family, long drives on Sunday with his wife, traveling around with his faithful pooches and making his friends and family laugh at this goofy antics. He loved having a good chuckle and entertained all who knew him with his storytelling. His sly smile and dry wit will be deeply missed. George was a rock for his whole family. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours and his services will be held privately, at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Dog Control, Attention of Mr. Craig Jenks 13149 State Rt. 12 Boonville, NY 13309, or to Lewis Co.
