~~Port Leyden- George B. Hubbard, 89, of Canal St. husband of the late Vivian, passed away at his home, while surrounded by the loving care of his family and Hospice, on Saturday, April 29, 2017. He was born in the Town of Lyonsdale, on December 13, 1927, a son of Guy and Naomi Tuttle Hubbard. He grew up on the Rumble Road, Lyonsdale and received his education at a rural school. He was first employed for the Town of Leyden Highway Department as a snow plow operator. For twenty five years, Mr. Hubbard was employed in plant maintenance and as a machine operator, retiring in 1987. Thereafter he was employed at Lewis County Forestry Service. On December 29, 1949, George was united in marriage with Vivan Knapp, in the Town of Lyonsdale. Later the couple moved to Canal St. Port Leyden, where George had since lived. Mrs. Hubbard passed away on November 24, 1975. Mr. Hubbard attended Calvary Bible Church, Greig and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. George is survived by his children; Kathleen M. Flint, Lowville; Terry L. Hubbard, Port Leyden, Wayne (Kathy) Hubbard, Martinsburg, Kevin J. Hubbard, Gloversville, Tracy L. Elliott, Lowville, and Mark A. (Lyndsey) Hubbard, Boones, Mill, VA; and by thirty grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren. At the present time George was joyfully anticipating the birth of another great grandchild and a great great grandchild. He was predeceased by a son, Bernard Guy Hubbard, and by two daughters; Gloria Rose Hubbard and Cassie Mae Johnson. The last of his family, Mr. Hubbard was predeceased by his siblings; Harold Hubbard, Bob Hubbard, Lois Gydesen and Anna Outtrim. His family wishes to express a heartfelt note of thanks and appreciation to Drs. Gary Engels and Martha Lynn Pisaniello, of the South Lewis Health Center, Kinney Drugs of Lowville and the Staff of Lewis County General Hospital, Lewis County Hospice, Mary Ann Kingston, and Lisa Wadsworth Bates, Carls Auto, The Weber family, Anna Mae Hubbard, Pastor James Jenkins and all of the friends and family who assisted George. His Funeral will be Tuesday, at 1:00 P.M. at Calvary Bible Church, Sweeney Road, Greig, where Pastor James Jenkins, will officiate. Interment will be in Port Leyden Cemetery.
