Gary L. Rushford

Lyons Falls – Gary L. Rushford, 80, of Edgewood Dr., husband of Gail, passed away in the comfort of his home on Sunday, December 11, 2022, while under the loving care of his wife, children, and Lewis County Hospice.

He was born on February 27, 1942, a son of William H. and Betty Gaddis Rushford. He grew up in Rome, NY, where he received his education graduating from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1960. Gary was employed for 33 years with New York State, working as a direct care aide for the Rome State School. In 1985, Gary was married to Gail Shorter, the couple moved to Lyons Falls in late 1990’s.

Besides his wife Gail, Gary is survived by his children: Elizabeth Kasakowski, Lee Center, Michelle (Andrew) Madonia, Rome, Shawna (Jason) Spence, Ann Harbor, MI, Michael Rushford, Hurley, NY, step-son Shane (Leslie) Shorter, Tampa, FL, step-son Wade Shorter, Cold Brook, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brother William (Mary Lou) Rushford, Rome, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Fred.

Graveside Services will be held in Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls in the Spring of 2023. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, NY 13309.
