Gale Edwin Van Alstine, Sr., 80 of Lyons Falls passed away February 9, 2021 following complications of a stroke. He was born on April 29, 1940 to Ray and Catherine Shepard Van Alstine. He attended school in General Martin in Glenfield, graduating in 1960. In 1963, he married Victoria McCanney at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Constableville. After high school, Gale trucked logs and worked the family farm, with his parents, until he took over the farm, Pride Acres Dairy Farm with his wife in 1969. In 1991, Gale retired from farming to pursue his many other interests. He started a trucking and excavating business. Gale was an outdoorsman at heart and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He enjoyed reading especially books on Lewis County history. Gale enjoyed traveling with his wife, and he especially loved going to Arizona to see his sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Bert Gorczyca. He loved riding on the range with Bert. Gale treasured his many friendships with the neighbors and his logging friends. Most of all he enjoyed his family. He was a member of the Holstein Friesian Association, The United Polka League, the NY Timber Association, The NRA and was a NYS Licensed Well Driller. Gale was predeceased by his parents, daughter Rachel, granddaughter Olivia Van Alstine and sister Lillian Gorczyca. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Victoria; his children, Lori (Steven) Upton, Sherburne; Catherine (Crock) Bush, New Bremen; Gale, Jr. and Francis of Lyons Falls; grandchildren Matthew, Kara, Bree, Nicole, Emily, Samantha and Tyler and his great-grandchildren Emmett, Paityn, Ray, Sophia, Vincenzo, Jack, and Kya. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service in memory of Gale Edwin Van Alstine, at 12 Noon, on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Turin Cemetery, Turin, NY.
