Boonville- Frank H. Washburn, 78, formerly of LaChausse Road and Round Barn Road, near Holland Patent, husband of Phyllis, passed away while surrounded by the loving care of his wife and family on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since 2013. He was born in Utica, on September 28, 1937, a son of Herman and Anna Gudyka Washburn. He grew up in Utica, where he graduated from Utica Free Academy. Thereafter he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country in Korea, during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Mr. Washburn returned to Utica, where he was employed as an attendant at Utica State Hospital. He was united in marriage with Carol Betsinger, at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville; after that the couple lived on Echo Lake Road, Boonville, later moving to Round Barn Road, near Holland Patent. He was employed as a bus driver for ARC and also in the same capacity for Adirondack Central School District, Boonville. His last employment was as a security guard for Security and Investigation Co. of Utica. Mrs. Washburn passed away in 1996. On February 16, 2002, Frank was united in marriage with Phyllis Duffer Berwick, at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport. Thereafter the couple lived on LaChausse Road. Mr. Washburn attended St. Joseph's Church, Boonville. He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, fishing on Black River, hunting, snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle. He was a fan of actor John Wayne and enjoyed a large collection of John Wayne memorabilia. In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Frank is survived by one son, Thomas Washburn and his fiance, Tina Marie, Syracuse; two daughters, Mary Francis (Rick) Cardinal, Floyd, Susan Kurdziolek and friend, Jerry Storms, Holland Patent and by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also surviving are step children; Kathie (Arthur) Treta, Forestport, Laurie (Robert) Teal, Port Leyden, Shari (Jeff) Reed, Hawkinsville, Frank (Dee Dee) Berwick, Floyd, Barbara (Jim) Fear, Henrico, VA, and Michael (Jessica) Berwick, Hunter Town, IN. He was predeceased by a step son, Ricky Berwick, in 1978. Also surviving are three sisters, Lorraine (Alfred) Matys, Gertrude Szczeniak and Patricia (Peter) Walchulsky, all of Utica. His Funeral will be Thursday, May 26, 2016, at 1 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Thomas Ward, pastor of Christ our Hope Catholic Parish, St. Joseph's Church of Boonville, will officiate. Interment will follow in Holland Patent Cemetery, where members of Charles J. Love Post American Legion, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League will confer Military Rites. Calling hours are Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
