Lyons Falls-Frances Carol Gydesen Yost (age 76), formerly of Cherry Street, Lyons Falls, widow of Donald, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020 at her home. Frances was born in Lowville on September 18, 1943, a daughter of Francis and Lois Hubbard Gydesen. She grew up at The Pines homestead in Penny Settlement and graduated from Port Leyden High School with the Class of 1961. On June 30, 1961, Frances married Donald A. Yost, the love of her life, at her grandparent's house, Guy and Naomi Hubbard. Frances and Don managed and lived at the Cozy Corner Restaurant located at the bottom of the McAlpine Street hill in Lyons Falls in the 1960's where she was famous for her homemade baked goods. Her joy of cooking and baking was fondly loved by all. She said you will know I'm around when you smell molasses cookies. Frances also enjoyed reading, camping, making crafts and embroidering. She was a Girl Scout leader for 25 years and a Boy Scout leader for 1 year. She worked at Mercer's when it was located in downtown Lyons Falls. She was a bus driver at South Lewis for 25 years until her retirement when she injured her shoulder and could not return to work. Frances is survived by three children Donald A Yost, Jr. & wife Nancy; Denise Yost & partner Miles McDonald and Daniel Yost & partner Deborah Mowers; five grandchildren Tami Unroe; Tabitha Milton & husband Christopher; Donald Yost III & fiance Naomi Aquino; Amanda Yost & partner William Denslow, Hunter Yost & partner Ciera Egan; six great grandchildren Caleb Teague, Zachary Yost, Wyatt & Aria Denslow and Hailey & Alaina Milton. She is also survived by siblings Lorraine (Jim) Bennett, Gordon (Bonnie) Gydesen, sister-in-law Marilyn (Ray) Armfield, Debbie (Greg) Stiff, Teresa (Gary) Hoffman, Janette (Mike) Raymond, James Gydesen and Nelson Gydesen and in-laws Beverly (Robert) Britt, Betty (Bob) Wagar, Pat (Willie) Wilson, Kenneth (Mary) Rhone and William Rhone. She is also survived by many many nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances is predeceased by her beloved husband Donald on December 2, 1999, grandson Neil Unroe, brother Thomas Gydesen and brother-in-law Joseph Rhone. Frances and Donald were foster parents for 25 years. They lovingly brought over 20 children into their home and cared for them like they were their own. Chris, Greg, Janet, Jeff and Cathy Lamb lived with them for many years and they hold a dear place in her heart. Frances was a member of the Forest Presbyterian Church in Lyons Falls. Above anything, Frances loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so happy when her granddaughter Amanda, Billy and her great-grandchildren Wyatt & Aria moved in with her. She loved hearing the sounds of their little voices. Amanda was her most special angel and she was so proud to have Amanda take care of her until the end. She said just before she passed that she was a lucky person because she had a lot of people who loved her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at 10:30 A.M. at Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls, where Pastor Elizabeth Smith, from Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls, will officiate. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
