Flora E. Kohler

Hawkinsville - Flora E. (Tuttle) Kohler, 89, of Wingert Road passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica after a brief illness. She was born in the Town of West Turin on April 16, 1920, to William and Ruth (Brooks) Tuttle. Flora grew up in the vicinity of Lyons Falls and she graduated from General Martin High School in Glenfield. From 1965 until her retirement in 2000, Flora was employed at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Boonville in the housekeeping and laundry departments, much of that time serving as supervisor of the laundry department. On May 17, 1956 she was married to Edgar "Ed" Kohler in St. Clairsville, Ohio. The couple moved to their home in Hawkinsville in 1964. Mr. Kohler, a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired area mechanic, died on September 25, 2000. Flora was of the Methodist faith. She greatly loved animals of all kinds, and found joy in feeding and caring for her pets and her horses, and any animal that she encountered. She loved the outdoors, and began hiking in the Adirondacks with her family when in her 50's. Flora and her family eventually climbed all forty-six peaks of the Adirondack Mountains. Survivors include two sons, Roy and Robert Aden, both of Lyons Falls; a daughter, Alice Baslow also of Lyons Falls; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Bruce Young of Glenfield. She was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Young in 1999, four bothers, George, Herbert, James, and Norris, and two sisters, Iva Dixson and Lamoine Hurd. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at Wildwood Cemetery in Lyons Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, 6388 Pine Grove Road, Glenfield, NY 13367. Arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
