Constableville- Eva Duppert Shambo, 81, died on Monday, February 4, 2019 at St. Luke's Hospital in Utica, N.Y. after many health struggles. She was with her loving family at the time of her death. Born in Lowville, N.Y. on March 30, 1937, the daughter of Wendelin and Catherine Bernholz Duppert, she was raised by her aunt, Lorena Bernholz following her parents' death. A lifelong resident of Constableville, she graduated from Constableville High School in 1954 and went on to graduate in 1955 with an Office dministration degree from Central City Business Institute in Syracuse. Eva married the love of her life, Donald Shambo, on September 3, 1955 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Constableville. For 36 years, Eva worked at a job she loved as first a postal clerk and then as Postmaster of the Constableville Post Office, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends, baking, sewing, knitting and canning. For several years, Eva and Don enjoyed taking the four grandchildren camping each summer in Lake George. Eva's pride in her small village of "C-ville" was unsurpassed. She, along with June Scheidelman and Jim Northam, founded the C-villairs Community Marching Band in 1963 where she directed as well as played trumpet for many years. Eva stayed involved with the band through this summer's alumni performance. She was a member of the St. Mary's Church Altar and Rosary Society in Constableville, the 6913 VFW Ladies Auxilary in Lowville, a member/volunteer of the Constable Hall Historical Society and a volunteer with the Constableville Fire Department's many events. She was known for her leadership, compassion and sense of humor as well as a valued member of the community. Eva is survived by her beloved husband, Donald, of 63 years and by her devoted children, Cynthia (Joe) Dowd of Wynantskill, N.Y., Susan (Randy) Conway of Turin, N.Y., Donna (Jeff) Robinson of New Hartford, N.Y. and John (Rita) Shambo of Bridgewater, M.A. ; four cherished grandchildren, Derek Conway, Jacob Conway, Kaitlin Dowd and Connor Dowd. She was also survived by her sister Ann Colleen of Danville, I.L. and by her brother, James (Maureen) Duppert of Constableville, as well as several nieces and nephews. Eva was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Petrovitz and Barbara Narrow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Lawrence Marullo, on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Constableville. Immediately following the services, relatives and friends are invited to attend a luncheon at the church hall. Food donations are greatly appreciated. Calling hours are Thursday from 3-7pm at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Constableville.
