Constableville-Eugene (Gene) Bickford, 82, a resident of Wynn Road for the past several years, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2008, at his residence, while under the loving care of his daughter, Kathleen, and Lewis Co. Hospice. A native of Turin, he was born on September 5, 1925, a son of Eugene and Florence Ingersoll Bickford. On December 18, 1949, Gene was united in marriage with Eleanor M. Jaquays, who passed away on May 13, 1980. Gene, fondly known by his friends as "Slim," was employed for fifteen years as head caretaker at Campfire Club of America, a gun club in Chappaqua, NY, before retiring in 1985 when he and his wife returned to upstate New York to operate his own diner known as the "Dinner Bell" in Deansboro. After that they moved Turin, where the couple operated the Turin Lodge Motel on Rt. 26 near Turin. His last employment was operator of the Oswegatchie Camp for the Future Farmer's of America in Croghan. He is survived by two daughters; Kathleen F. Windover, Poughquag, NY, and Marie Moore, who was his care giver for seven years, Constableville, a son, Daniel A. Bickford, Sauquoit, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. Interment will be next to his wife at Crown Hill Memorial Park, Town of Kirkland.
