Ethel M. Webster

Otter Lake- Ethel M. (Vollmar) Webster, of State Rt. 28, widow of Ernest, entered into rest on Friday, May 16, 2008, St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. Ethel was born in Port Leyden, on February 14, 1921, a daughter of George H. and Elizabeth Johnson Vollmar. She grew up at the Vollmar homestead at the Denley Power Dam on Black River between Port Leyden, and Boonville. Ethel was united in marriage with Ernest E. Webster on October 16, 1938, a union of sixty five happy years together. After their marriage the couple lived in the vicinity of Port Leyden, moving to her present home in Otter Lake in 1952. Mr. Webster died on April 6, 2004. In her earlier life, she was employed with the Rice Veneer Company of McKeever, and as a wooden bowl souvenir maker at the Enchanted Forest Amusement Park of Old Forge. She was an avid NASCAR Racing Fan and enjoyed watching her favorite drivers on any given Sunday. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Mrs. Webster is survived by two sons: E. Eugene Webster, Otter Lake, Louis A. Webster, and wife, Beverly, Holland Patent, and one daughter; Beatrice Dockstader, Williamson, NY., (where she lived during the winter.) She was predeceased by a daughter, Louella Capron on October 12, 2006. Also surviving are seventeen grandchildren; several great grandchildren, one sister Elizabeth Webster, Woodgate, nieces, nephews, and a son in law, Clarence "Pudge" Capron, Hawkinsville. Ethel was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Clements, of Utica, and four brothers; Albert Vollmar, Port Leyden, George Vollmar, Rome, Preston Vollmar, Port Leyden, and Donald Vollmar, Boonville. A Memorial Service will be on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. William A. Mudge, pastor of the Boonville United Methodist Church will officiate. Calling hours are Wednesday from 12 Noon until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be private in Port Leyden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
