Estella T. Smith

Alder Creek - Estella T. (Stocklosa) Smith, 91, formerly of State Route 12, passed away July 31, 2010 at the St. Luke's Home, New Hartford, while surrounded by her loving family. Stella was born April 10, 1919 in Wilkes Barre, PA, a daughter of Frank and Pazi Nalepa Stoklosa. As a child she moved with her family to Steuben, NY. She attended a one room school in Remsen, and completed her education at Remsen High School. On April 24, 1937 Stella was united in marriage with W. John Smith. The couple settled on the Grassy Brook Farm at Alder Creek, and later moved to the Speyers Farm near Hawkinsville, where the couple raised potatoes. In 1947 they moved to Route 12 near Alder Creek, where they lived for sixty years. Stella was employed for several years at various mills in Utica. From 1969 until her retirement in 1988 she was employed as a sewing machine operator at the former Lally Manufacturing Co., Port Leyden. Mr. Smith, a retired employee of Boonville Agway, died on May 15, 1982. She was a long time member of St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, and the Up and Go Senior Citizens. For many years she enjoyed volunteering at the Boonville Elks Lodge with her husband. She was an avid bingo player who loved raising flowers and vegetables, crocheting, and traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. She especially enjoyed polka music and dancing. Stella was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great- grandmother. Stella is survived by three daughters, Priscilla Boliver and her husband, Gerald, and Frances "Pudge" Boliver and her husband, Richard, all of Croghan, and Karen Tucker and companion Tony Oaks of Greig; a son, Henry "Butch" Smith and his wife, Katie, of Utica; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant daughter, Marie Helen; a son, James W. Smith in 2009; three brothers, Louis, Bill, and Joseph; and a sister, Anna Webster. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Boonville, where the Rev'd Sean P. O'Brien will officiate. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Boovnille. A prayer service will precede the Mass at 10:15 a.m. at the Trainor Funeral Home, 143 Schuyler Street, Boonville.
