Emory Curtis Coe, 51, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Memorial Hospital, New Hartford. He was born on April 29, 1955, in Waverly, Iowa, a son of Alton M. and Joyce E. Curtis Coe. Emory grew up in Locust Grove near Boonville, and graduated from South Lewis Senior High School with the Class of 1973. While in high school, he was a member of the varsity wrestling and track teams. Talented in vocal music, Emory participated in the high school musical productions, and in Bi-County Chorus. Emory enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1976. He served as a medical specialist in Hawaii until his honorable discharge in 1979. In 1981 Emory began his employment with Kraft Foods of Lowville, where he held many positions throughout the company. During his career at Kraft Foods, he graduated from MVCC where he studied Computer Science and Biology. He also attended Utica College and SUNY IT of Utica. On January 8, 1983, Emory was united in marriage with Marjorie Capron at their home on Academy St. in Boonville. They were married for thirteen years. Emory greatly enjoyed running and for many years he competed in many road races throughout New York State, his favorite, the annual Utica Boiler Maker Road Race. He also enjoyed reading science fiction. He loved to cook, raise plants, and take care of his many pets. He is survived by his father and step mother; Alton and Florence Coe, Sr., Oneida, and his grandmother, Clara Bartelotte, Lyonsdale. Emory was predeceased by his mother, Joyce E. Coe on September 19, 2006, and by his grandfather, Emory R. Curtis, on April 25, 1967. He is also survived by four brothers; Alton Coe, Jr., Denton, TX., Michael Coe and wife Cathy, McRea, GA., Larry Coe, and his wife, Valerie, Oneida, Staff Sgt. Eric Coe, currently stationed with the U.S. Army in Iraq, and his wife Helen, in Hawaii, two sisters; Lori Lahah, Cleveland, NY, Julianne Backer, Boonville, a step daughter and her husband, Cathy and Harold Roberts, Boonville, two grandchildren; Kelsey and Evan Roberts, two step sisters; Penny Witchley, Wendy Buell, both of Oneida, aunts, uncles, cousins, and several nieces and nephews that he simply adored. Emory is also survived by his life partner, Paul Kahler, Utica. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, on Sunday from 1-4 P.M., with a celebration of Emoryï¿(TM)s Life to commence at 4 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Boonville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a humane society of your choice.
