Boonville- Elsie M. Berger, 95, formerly of State Route 294, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014, at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she had resided since December of 2003. Elsie was born on January 26, 1919 in the Town of Leyden, a daughter of David and Ida Rauscher Berger. She grew up on the Berger Family Farm on the Stuckie Road (Dutch Hill), where she attended rural schools. Elsie moved with her family to Boonville in 1941, where for a short time they resided on Ford St., before settling on Charles Street. In 1960, Elsie and her sister, Ida, purchased their home on Route 294, where they had lived until Ida passed away in Dec. 2003. From 1941 until 1971, Elsie was employed at Boonville Manufacturing Co.; and then from 1971 until her retirement in 1981, she was employed with Ethan Allen Furniture Co., Boonville. Elsie was an avid reader, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling. She is survived by one niece: Catherine (Alan) Healey, Barneveld, two great-nieces: Debra (William) Effland, Boonville, Lynn Berger, Utica, two great-nephews: Brian (Kelly) Healey, Barneveld, Michael (Chris) Berger, Amherst, three great-great nieces: Katie and Chelsi Effland, and Anna Healey, two great-great-nephews: Nathan Healey and Michael Berger, Jr.. Also surviving are special friends and neighbors: Hattie (Dick) Zeigler and Stella (Don) Zeigler. Elsie was predeceased by five brothers: DeForest, Earl, Theodore, Clyde and Donald Berger, one sister, Ida M. Berger, one nephew David Berger in Nov. 2001, and one great-nephew Jeff Healey in Aug. 1996. Elsie's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care given to Elsie during her stay at Sunset Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. In keeping with Elsie's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be in West Leyden Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Boonville Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box #164, Boonville, NY 13309 or to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box #3049, Syracuse, New York 13220. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., Boonville.
