January 14, 1925 — February 16, 2019

Minoa- Elizabeth Betty Racquet, passed away on February 16, 2019, while at home, at the age of 94 years. She was born in Utica, on January 14, 1925, to Reverta and Francis Murphy. She graduated Utica Free Academy and proceeded to live an extraordinary life. She pursued her education during difficult times in her life, studying business subjects and short hand and during World War II; she was employed at the Pentagon in Washington DC. Betty married the love of her life, Herschel Racquet, on February 15, 1946, in Bucyrus, OH, and together they built a wonderful life. For most of their married life the couple lived in Minoa; Mr. Racquet, who grew up in Forestport, NY, a Navy Pacific Theater Veteran of WWII, and retired builder in the Syracuse area, passed away on June 22, 2012. For twenty years Mrs. Racquet was employed for Agway in Dewitt, in the accounting department, retiring in 1986. She was also an avid crafter who spent many years selling her famous slippers and kitchen towels at craft shows in New York and Florida. For many years Betty and Herschel lived year around at Weirsdale, FL, later returning to Minoa. The couple loved traveling to Herschels Navy Ship reunions as her loving husband was a proud Navy Veteran. Betty was a Murphy through and through and was always mighty proud to be an Orange Irishman! Betty was the backbone of our family; a true example of the Greatest Generation. Betty provided financial stability for her family. To know Betty was to love her; family meant the world to Betty and she is survived by her two sons, Richard (Dick) Racquet and James (Karen) Racquet, all of East Syracuse; grandchildren, Kim (Chris) Everhart, Jeff (Angela) Stivers, Kristin (AJ) Garropy, Katie Curinga (Adam Dunn) and Kellen (Jacob) Crawford, and 11 great grandchildren which she adored. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019, from 2-6 P.M. at the Simon Parise VFW Post 6996, East Taft Road, East Syracuse, NY.
