Elinor Marie Fiorenza

June 18, 1932 — May 7, 2023

Boonville- Elinor Marie Fiorenza, 90, of Fox Wood Lane, wife of Philip, and a former longtime resident of State Rt.26, at Ava Four Corners, passed away at her residence on Sunday, May 7, 2023, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband, children, grandchildren and caretakers.


Affectionately known as Marie, she was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, on June 18, 1932, a daughter of Otto and Johanna Kennedy Dietz. She grew up in the Hudson Valley and found love and guidance with Tom and Mary Dietz, along with their children, Pat, Bob and Susie. She later graduated from Plattsburgh University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.


On November 28, 1957, Marie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Philip Fiorenza, at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Following their marriage, the couple resided in West Leyden, before moving to the hamlet of Ava, where they resided for many years, until relocating to their present home in Boonville.

Mrs. Fiorenza was a Home Economics teacher in West Leyden School and later in Adirondack Central School, until her retirement in 1991.


Mrs. Fiorenza was a member of St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden. She was also a member of the Adirondack Citizens Advisory League and an active member of the A.C.S. Booster Club. She was always seen participating in community, Church, school, and fire department events and fundraisers.


She is survived by her husband, Philip; children, Christine and John Markham, Carma and Steve Flannery, Patrick and Katrina Fiorenza, Joseph Fiorenza and Stacy Edwards, David Fiorenza and Kim Allen; her grandchildren, Kalie and Paul Oliva, Elizabeth DiGiovine, John and Stephanie Markham, Jared and Stephanie Markham, Mickey Fiorenza, Ericka Fiorenza, Lanse Allen, Sienna Fiorenza, Katherine Allen, Johanna Fiorenza and Riley Edwards, and great grandchild, Asher Markham.


Marie’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to her much loved and devoted caretaker, Debbie Jackson and to Hospice.


Marie possessed from within a heart of gold which always radiated with great love, concern and work for the wellbeing of others. Marie was a devoted and beloved, wife, mother and grandmother and a woman who truly loved her neighbor. She will be fondly remembered as a person who brightened the surroundings and mood of others and for her abilities as an exceptional cook, baker, and seamstress. Together Marie and Philip were a great team who loved and served the Adirondack School Community, along with the communities of Ava, West Leyden and Boonville while brightening the lives of many people.


Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 12, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, West Leyden, where Rev. Lawrence Marullo will officiate. Interment will follow in Ava Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville. Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413.


Following the services, all are invited to attend a luncheon at the Harland J. Hennessey V.F.W., Park Ave Boonville, beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Friday.
