Boonville- Elaine Mary Romano-Tekce, 76, of Boonville, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 in Saint Elizabeth's Hospital after a brief illness, while surrounded by the loving care of her husband, Murat, daughter, Emel and her nephew, David. She was born in Rome, NY, on February 12, 1945 daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Kotary Romano. Elaine graduated high school from Saint Aloysius Academy in Rome, NY. After that she attended the College of Saint Rose in Albany where she obtained her bachelor's degree and then Fordham University in NY City for her master's degree. From there, Elaine worked for several publishing firms in New York City. After many years in publishing, Elaine changed careers, earning a master's degree in clinical social work. She then returned to Rome in 1989 and practiced social work for Oneida County. Elaine married Murat Tekce on March 19,1993. After retirement, Elaine volunteered at the Boonville NY Historical Canal Museum and at Matthews Place Ministries Store on Main St. Boonville. She was a member of Boonville Historical Club and had also served on the local board of elections. Elaine was known for her sharp wit, unwavering intellect, and generous nature. She will be greatly missed and was loved by all. Elaine was also predeceased by her brother, Richard Romano. Elaine is survived by her husband Murat Tekce, Boonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Nicholas and Pauline Romano, Rome; a daughter Emel Duymaz (Mehmet), Yorkville; a son Erdinc Tekce (Ebru), Dunmore PA; grandchildren Dennis, Jasmene, Alexander, & Mia Duymaz, and Lara, Mira, & Anna Tekce; nephews Dr. David Romano, Syracuse, and Brian Romano (Linda), Oriskany; grandnephews Dominic, Michael, & grandniece Isabella Romano. Elaine's family extends a note of thanks to Dr. Karavas and his team, and St. Elizabeth's CTICU Staff for their compassionate care. A memorial service is being planned later in the Spring.
